Speaker talking about new technology in IT

It’s a common word, the world is revolving around it. ‘Technology’ has grown deeply and widely in our societies. Connection to the outside world has been made easier with the invention and advancement of technology. Its impacts are well-recognized in sectors in our world. Many people live by it. It’s difficult for them to survive without it. As common as it is, there has been an undefined understanding of what technology truly means and its impacts. This leads to answering the question,

What is technology?

As defined by Merriam-Webster technology is “the application of knowledge to the practical aims of human life or to changing and manipulating the human environment. Technology includes the use of materials, tools, techniques, and sources of power to make life easier or more pleasant and work more productive. Whereas science is concerned with how and why things happen, technology focuses on making things happen.” Dating back to ancient technology was known in the form of basic tools. Early tools, made out of paraphernalia such as stone, bone, and wood, were used for cooking materials, hunting, production of weapons, and materials to manufacture clothing and valuable antiques.

The Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution of the 20th century marked the progressive rise and recognition of the manufacture and use of technology gadgets. Tools and machines are systematically developed to undertake tasks done by people, predominantly in businesses which later spread to other areas. Advancements in technological tools including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet have abated physical obstructions to information transmission and enabled man to interact easily as a global village. Up-to-date technology evolves to be more relevant day by day. All sectors in society have practically adopted a technological system for better operation. For instance, there is the application of technology in the educational system and instructional process. Schools expose learners to the internet and information technology (IT). Both public and private schools have a computer system where information and documents are stored. School registration procedures and enrollment processes are disseminated via technology. The pedagogical process is made easier for the teacher and creatively accessible by the learners. Learning materials are excessively available for learners on the internet. Search Engines (browsers) are online and mobile libraries for students. Technology also improved personalized learning methods, where each student learns at his own pace. Online courses with certificates allow learning to take place away from the four walls of a classroom which saves time.

Application of Technology

“The 20th century Industrial Revolution marked a major rise in the development and use of technology. Tools and machines were created to handle tasks once done by people, initially in businesses, and later expanding to other sectors.” #IndustrialRevolution #TechInnovation #Progress

Technology in the Health Sector

Technology in the health sector has tremendous impacts on the health operating system. It has proffered solutions to underlying problems. Machines were developed to facilitate hospitals for proper diagnosing, surgery, and treatment of patients. The capabilities of health centres are mostly justified by the availability of technological equipment. Different health technologies constitute health document systems, including personal, journal, and electronic; personal health tools including smart devices and apps; and finally, associations to share and review data. Technology in Healthcare service aims to deliver satisfactory treatment for patients and assist attain health equity. Health IT supports the computing of patient data to facilitate healthcare delivery and allows for the computation of this information for both healthcare experts and the Ministry of health/government agencies. This data is used for the execution of policies to give better treatment and prevent the spread of infections or illnesses. Health IT improves the quality of healthcare services increases patient safety, lessens medical missteps, and enhances the communication between patients and healthcare practitioners. Furthermore, the economic world wears a new face due to the adaptation of technological equipment. Administration, production, marketing, and distribution of goods and services become easier and faster than it was. Technology helps in saving time, space, and paper through the use of electronic files. Many businesses have improved with accurate financial recording and auditing carried out through the use of technology.

Internet Policies

Internet policies and privacy settings are developed to ensure business security against unauthorized access or activities in the industry and prevent ethical hacking. Apart from the conveniences experienced by business owners and employees, technology made easy client transactions and communication with business owners eg. online shopping, banking, and effortless sending of feedback or product reviews. Companies use Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and digital marketing to broaden their visibility on the internet. The Internet is also used to research for more creativity and innovative development.

Businesses can hardly survive without technology.

Banking technologies such as Automated Teller Machines (ATM), online transactions, e-money, and others save time and space for individuals and both small and large business scales.  Since the 20th century, technological innovations have immensely improved agricultural activities. More sophisticated, specially designed technologies aid in increasing crop productivity, decreasing human labour on farms with high workers’ safety. Technology is also used to safeguard crops by overseeing their growth and finding out diseases in plants. The application of global positioning systems(GPS), site-specific cultivation, GIS software, weather analytic devices, and precision agriculture help in crop farming. Seed sorting, irrigation, soil sampling, pest control, and product housing are scientifically improved by technologies. Not only on crop farming but, technology also has crucial impacts on animal husbandry. Many opportunities are opened to farmers such as having the technical equipment to monitor animals, their feeding, reproduction, and health status. Remote monitoring technologies help for better insight into the well-being of animals even without coming physically to the farm. Milking of dairy animals is done independently by automated dairy facilities. Technology also helps in harvesting farm produce and transporting it within or out of the country.

Technology in Agriculture and Communiation

Another aspect with a significant impact of technology is communication. Even the list will not be completed without adding Information Communication Technology (ICT). As the name implies, it involves technology with accuracy and speed in storing, sending, and retrieving information, and effective communication. ICT is the use of the internet, cellphones, computers, wireless networks, social networking, video conferencing, and other multimedia applications and services authorizing users to access, retrieve, save, send, and alter information/data in a digital format. Information is essential to our living and communication; it has always been a focus for individuals, societies, companies, and states to perpetually have effective communication. With this aim, several platforms have been developed. Through technology, people and businesses can connect and network, widening their information boundaries, creating new connections, and sustaining them. Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Instagram, and others are social media platforms primarily used for sharing compelling content, graphics, and adverts apart from radio and television. Our daily living and occupation are inseparable from technology. Right in homes, technological devices such as televisions, video players, solar systems, refrigerators, irons, electric fans, gasoline power generators, and other home appliances make living susceptible. Each discipline has tremendously felt the impact of technology scaling from semiskilled and skilled occupations. Offices are equipped with computer systems, notepads, printers, photocopiers, scanners, air conditioners, water dispensers, security automated doors, projectors, CCTV cameras and many more to render accurate services additional creativities and innovations. 5G (5th generation mobile network) is developed to provide faster and more efficient network providers. 5G works 100 to 1000 times faster and is more stable than 4G. The 6G mobile network is anticipated in 15 or 20 years.

Robotics and AI

Evolving technologies are Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Computerized Algorithms. There is a refined expansion in the manufacturing of robots, especially in developed countries. As recorded by Darrell M. West, “Japan has the largest number with 306,700, followed by North America (237,400), China (182,300), South Korea (175,600), and Germany (175,200). Overall, robotics is expected to rise from a $15-billion sector now to $67 billion by 2025.” As technology upgrades, the human workforce will be replaced by advanced technologies. Analysis has shown that many employees will lose their jobs, especially jobs that can be done through robots, computerized algorithms, and AI. For instance, underwriters, watch repairers, cargo agents, tax preparers, telemarketers, library technicians, title examiners, hand sewers, photographic process workers, mathematical technicians, new accounts clerks, and data entry keyers have 99% of their tasks computerized. At the other end of the scope, mental health social workers, recreational therapists, mechanic supervisors, supervisors of firefighters, emergency management directors, oral surgeons, occupational therapists, healthcare social workers, and audiologists have less than a one percent opportunity of having their duties computerized. Unemployment tends to increase rapidly. People will retire early at the age of 40 to 45, having only to focus on environmental and societal issues.

Will there be future lose of Jobs?

In conclusion, technology is systematic electronic devices that are built to improve the standard of human living in all areas of life. Convincingly, technology has indelible impacts on us and the environment. It brings convenience to our customary activities. Scaling from communication, career, and lifestyle, technology devices intensify our productivity and proficiency. It makes communication easy, accurate, and creative. The world moves faster with it. However, caution should be taken to avoid its negative effects such as isolation from people, eye aching, sleeplessness, addiction, and loss of employment because as more advancement is coming by emerging technologies more benefits will be enjoyed.
