Journey into New York and UN

The magazine represents one of the most authoritative news media available on all platforms for the political, business, professional and broader middle classes while serving as the converging point of new ideas, culture and technology for the millennials. The 15th anniversary will be a great avenue to celebrate the amazing WAM brand. Even in the educational sector, WAM has been a lively and vibrant voice. Over the years, the most singular challenge, especially for parents and guardians from abroad, is how to find the right school for their young ones. WAM has introduced a column to search and publish regular answers to those basic guides on how to find the right school in response to the piles of inquiries and key questions from esteemed readers, especially from Africa. What a feat!

Over the past 15 years, the magazine played a major role in changing the African narrative where it displayed the continent for the present and future for the global stage. Western African Magazine does an impressive job bringing the voice of Africa’s community to the world. Its content is ever relevant because it challenges stereotypes and tells the African story from an African perspective. The wider world needs more of those amazing stories coming out from the continent to inspire the young generation of leaders and disparage racist movements. For instance, in her tradition, WAM’s search for a deserving personality for the Women’s Forum entailed journeying to Liberia and Washington, USA, to the doorsteps of Dr. Dawn Cooper Barnes, the outgoing Ambassador of Liberia to Washington for an exclusive interview.

Over the past decade and a half, the African continent has sprung up with inspiring, all-around progress and growth despite the global pandemic. WAM continues to aflame the hope of Africans by dishing out amazing success stories, which proves to us that progress is possible and attainable, and the future for Africa looks brighter than ever. I believe this magazine’s 15th anniversary is a great opportunity to use our knowledge to help accelerate progress and solutions on critical issues facing the Black race.

I was introduced to the already thriving magazine by my adviser Alma Nimley in 2010. Nimely knew as an independent publisher working in New York City, I could be a great contributor to WAM and bring in fresh ideas. She introduced me to WAM’s New York correspondent Bennett Yalartai, who agreed that my skills would benefit the publication. I was brought onto the team as the United Nations correspondent and USA East Coast distributor. I was given special press access and attended events, meetings and conferences. It has been an amazing experience getting to speak with and interview world leaders and learn more about world issues. Contributing to the magazine gave me an important role in the African and African American communities. Reporting on the issues most important to the development and survival of a people with an immensely deep and complicated history but also a very eclectic contemporary unfolding that has generational implications that all parties around the world should be following closely, put me in a realm of serious and meaningful journalism.

Looking Ahead

Western African Magazine is an incredibly important publication that is on the frontline of the news landscape and always presents unparalleled in-depth insights on the global operating atmosphere for politics, business, culture and trade, et cetera. The excellent standards of journalism allowed me to spread my wings beyond my normal scope of arts, entertainment, and healthy lifestyles. It has been an incredible learning experience, as I have learned so much about the world and also deepened my reporting, writing and publishing skills. I began to see WAM in different areas around NYC and felt proud that my work was effective: people were purchasing and reading the publication to get this most important information.
